Executive Search

Define the responsibility.

A new capability. A market to open. A business to redirect. We define the decisions the next leader must own and the change the organisation needs.

That responsibility directs the search. We investigate comparable experience, examine individual contribution and assess the conditions in which a leader can deliver.

Fields of enquiry

Leadership across the enterprise.

The mandate determines the responsibility. We shape each search around the decisions, authority and organisational contribution the appointment must carry.

Enterprise leadership

Chief executives and business leaders with responsibility for direction, performance and the organisation’s next stage.

Finance and investment

Financial leadership connecting capital allocation, commercial judgement and control to the ambitions of the enterprise.

Technology and product

Leaders who translate technical capability into products, operating advantage and the capacity to build at scale.

Operations and supply chain

Executives who connect complex operations, production and supply networks to dependable delivery and business performance.

Commercial leadership

Leaders responsible for market development, customer strategy and the commercial systems that sustain profitable growth.

People and organisation

Leadership that shapes organisational capability, develops management strength and aligns people decisions with the business.

The leadership decision

Appoint for the business ahead.

Leadership experience becomes valuable in a particular setting. A successful expansion, a difficult turnaround or a new operating model each calls for different judgement. We establish what the business needs its next leader to change, then investigate the experience that could make that change possible.

The search examines the conditions behind a career: the authority held, the decisions made and the organisation around the individual. Engagement brings motivation and ambition into the picture. Assessment connects both to the responsibility, giving the board or ownership group a substantive basis for its decision.

The work in practice

Leadership for the next chapter.

A change in direction

A business moving into a new phase needs leadership suited to what comes next. The search begins with the commercial choices, organisational changes and operating pressures ahead, then considers people who have carried comparable responsibilities and can explain the decisions behind their experience.

A succession decision

Succession deserves an external perspective before urgency narrows the choices. We investigate leadership backgrounds, compare the experience available and examine what the next responsibility may require. The field helps the client consider continuity, change and the conditions under which a different leader could succeed.

A critical function

Finance, technology, commercial and operations leadership shape the enterprise through different decisions. We define the function’s contribution to the wider business, investigate relevant leaders and assess how they work across organisational boundaries. The appointment is considered in relation to the enterprise it must strengthen.

From investigation to decision

The leadership perspective

A candidate recommendation brings experience, contribution and motivation into the same frame. It gives the client a considered starting point for discussion, with the questions that could materially change the appointment kept visible throughout the assessment.

01Responsibility
The decisions the person would own, the authority available and the business conditions against which their contribution will be judged.
02Experience
The relevant achievements, the individual’s part in them and the operating circumstances that made those achievements possible.
03Appointment
The alignment between the organisation’s expectations, the individual’s ambition and the practical conditions required for a considered move.

Further perspective

A closer look.

What makes a leadership brief effective?

A useful brief identifies the decisions that will belong to the new leader and the changes the organisation expects them to make. We examine reporting relationships, available resources and the degree of authority behind the title. This establishes a basis for evaluating experience and gives the individual a concrete understanding of the opportunity.

How are less obvious candidates considered?

The research examines comparable business challenges as well as comparable positions. A leader from an adjacent sector may have relevant experience that a title-based search would miss. We investigate the conditions behind that experience and test its transfer to the new setting, making the reasoning explicit before advancing the person for consideration.

How does the client stay close to the search?

We establish a working rhythm around the decisions the client needs to make. Discussions cover the developing field, the response to the opportunity and the questions that could alter the appointment. The client sees where the research is leading and can refine the mandate with an understanding of the implications for the search.

The appointment ahead

One mandate. Full commitment.

Retained search establishes dedicated responsibility for the assignment. We carry the work through engagement, assessment, terms and transition, with senior attention to the decisions that determine the outcome.
